Yes that is definitely how the denialists operate. Fossil fuel companies are pretty much following the standard set by tobacco companies to the letter. And they do use the unanimity rule, they are unanimous in their denial of the data, the models, and most importantly the conclusions. Perhaps there will be occasional examples of open-mindedness but they are merely exceptions.
