I want to buy a used psp from gamestop with a low fermware what should i be looking for?

i want to downgrade it to custom firmware so when i go to buy it what should it be like psp 1000,200 r 3000 for easy modifying? also at what firmware should it be at?also i was thinking of using the pandora battery for thiss "modding" so what is perfect for this?
