Question about the birth control pill...?

Right now I'm taking the Yasmin pill, which brings 21 pills instead of 28. I have been told that the last 7 pills don't really do anything and that most birth control pills bring them so you can keep a better control. My question is, in those 7 days in which I don't take the pill after taking the first 21, am I still protected against getting pregnant?
